The beans sown a few weeks ago are now growing quite strongly. This box should contain 4 types of beans, 5 of each.
Painted Lady, Firestorm and Princess all did well (5/5) while the small Barlotto transplants all died within a week. The seeds of these plants were all started in small plastic boxes covered in plastic.
The plants are now at a stage where they require support. This is provided with a simple home made frame and string. The string is carefully fastened below the bottom leaves of the plant and loosely fastened to the string above leaving extra string. Later in the year when the plants are moved outside the same string will be attached to strings ready in the garden.
The sunny days are tempting for taking the plants outside for a few hours but the chill in the wind would easily kill the young plants. The wind factor even on sunny days can decimate young plants.
