Beans are one of the easiest plants to grow, they are practically indestructible. This method involves a plastic box filled with compost, 4 to 6 seeds, misted with water, then sealed under clear plastic held in place with an elastic band.
After a week the beans appear. In the first instance, the plastic cover is removed and the beans left to grow for another few days. These beans were left slightly too long.
To remove the bean plants, work fingers in between plants to support the soil. Turn the box upside down allowing the whole block of soil to come out as one. Place the soil block and plants on a tray and work the soil loose with fingers, separating the individual plants.
The individual plants are then replanted into individual pots (in this case recycled milk cartoons). The plants are then stored indoors for at least another week before moving them outside (weather permitting) for hardening off, bringing them in at night.
